Andrew M. Stern has represented insurance companies, surety bonding
companies and their insureds in courts throughout New England for over
twenty (20) years. Mr. Stern has conducted thousands of depositions and
examinations under oath, and has represented dozens of insurers in
arbitrations, references, mediations and other non-judicial proceedings. He
also has briefed and argued appeals in the appellate courts of
Massachusetts, most recently in the case of John Hancock Property and Cas.
Ins. Co. v. Scannell, 64 Mass.App.Ct. 906 (2005). His litigation experience
includes all types of negligence matters, construction law, contract
disputes, insurance coverage and bad faith and insurance fraud cases. Before
joining Brand & Associates, Mr. Stern was an associate at Smith & Brink’s
Danvers office, where he concentrated in insurance defense, insurance
coverage, bad faith claims and the investigation and trial of fraudulent
insurance claims.
Mr. Stern was also one of the founding attorneys of MetLife Auto & Home’s
Massachusetts in-house counsel office, where he practiced prior to Smith &
Brink. He also has previous defense experience at the firms of Gallagher &
Gallagher and Arthur Levine & Associates.
Mr. Stern also has extensive industry presentation experience. Mostly
recently, he has prepared materials for presentations at IASIU conferences
and prepared and presented training presentations at C.A.R. and the
Massachusetts Fire Academy advanced arson classes.
Mr. Stern received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of
Rochester in 1979. He received his Juris Doctor from the Georgetown
University Law Center in 1983. He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts
and New Hampshire.
